Rockstar Games announced today that an M-rated version of Manhunt 2 will be released in North America on October 31.
"Manhunt 2 is important to us, and we're glad it can finally be appreciated as a gaming experience," said Rockstar Founder and President Sam Houser. "Manhunt 2 is a powerful piece of interactive story telling that is a unique video game experience. We think horror fans will love it."
The game was initially slated for a July 2007 debut, but it recieved an Adults Only (AO) rating from the ESRB. Representatives from Nintendo and Sony had previously stated that they would not allow playback of AO-rated software on the Wii and PlayStation 2, respectively. Manhunt 2 has since been edited in order to garner the lower M for Mature rating.
Several PAL territories, including England and Italy, banned sales of Manhunt 2 prior to the game's original release date. Rockstar Games appealed the British Board of Film Classification's ban, which rendered sales of the game in England illegal, but the parties have yet to reach an agreement. Whether or not the game will see a release in other parts of Europe is still unknown.
