Wii Launch Details for Australia, Europe

Nintendo CEO and President Satoru Iwata addressed the press in London today to reveal the details of the European and Australian launches of their upcoming Wii console. Wii is set to launch in Australia on December 7, a mere five days after the December 2 Japanese launch of the console. Wii will launch in Europe the next day, December 8.

Nintendo set the price of Wii in the respective regions at GBP 179, 249 euros, and $399 Australian dollars.

In both Europe and Australia, Wii will come with the following:
  • One Wii Remote with strap
  • One Nunchuk
  • AC Adapter
  • Wii console stand
  • Wii A/V cables
  • Sensor bar
  • Sensor bar stand
  • Two AA batteries

The console will also come bundled with the Wii Sports game.

Additional Wii Remotes will also be available at the estimated price of GPB 29 (or 39 euros). The Nunchuk will retail at an estimated GBP 14 (or 19 euros). The Classic Controller is expected to have the same retail price as the Nunchuk.

Third-party Wii launch titles include Red Steel, Rayman Ravind Rabbids, Need for Speed: Carbon, Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam and Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz. First party launch titles include The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and Wii Play, a collection of mini-games which will come bundled with a Wii Remote.

The software library is expected to be around 20 titles by the end of the year, with the price of first-party software announced at 34-39 GBP or 49-59 euros (approximately 82-99 Australian dollars).

Twenty Virtual Console games are expected at launch, with approximately ten per month released thereafter.
