Grandparents Compete At World Store

by Rob Galbreath (2006-09-10)

Nintendo, following the company's statements to have an all-encompassing audience for the Wii, held a contest called Nintendo's Coolest Grandparent of the Year in Rockefeller Plaza, New York City.

Barbara St. Hilaire of Mantua from Ohio, 70, competed and won the grand prize by defeating opponents in Brain Age for the Nintendo DS. Nintendo presented Hilaire, nicknamed "Old Grandma Hardcore", with a prize of two Nintendo DS Lite handhelds and 10 DS games.

Grandma Hardcore, 70, raises her trophy.

"Hardcore" has made several appearances in the gaming industry prior to the competition, including G4's Attack of the Show, hosting MTV's G-Hole in December 2005 and her own Web site on game hints and gaming with her 13 grandchildren.

Nintendo was not available to comment whether or not the Wii will be involved in, if any, future grandparent competitions. The Wiire will keep you updated on any strategies Nintendo takes in their plans to broaden their market.
