Exclusive Resident Evil Title Announced

by Shawn White (2006-05-10)

In a recent announcement, Capcom confirmed an exclusive addition to the Resident Evil series is coming to Nintendo's next-generation console, Wii.

"The next-generation console Wii is garnering much attention with its groundbreaking new controller," Capcom said in an official statement. "The new Resident Evil game for the console will combine the series' intense gaming experience and atmosphere with the revolutionary control system of the Wii."

Capcom has not yet provided details on this Wii Resident Evil title, its connection to the series as a whole, and if Nintendo's next console might still receive Resident Evil 5, currently slated for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Resident Evil is a survival horror series crafted by Shinji Mikami which began life a decade ago on the PlayStation. The franchise has sold over 30 million units worldwide since its creation. Resident Evil 4 for GameCube, originally released in January 2005, is considered by fans and critics alike as the best game in the series. Capcom celebrated the franchise's ten year anniversary with Resident Evil: Deadly Silence for the Nintendo DS, a remake of the PlayStation original with added DS functionality implemented.
