During Nintendo's pre-E3 press conference, the company divulged new details regarding Nintendo's online and Virtual Console features for their next console, Wii.
President of Nintendo Satura Iwata first discussed Virtual Console, where he said that it is a way to bring non-gamers and current gamers together. "Most gamers have wonderful memories of games they used to play. Virtual Console will bring them together again," he said. "If I have to wait 30 or 40 seconds for a game to load, I know I am frustrated and I don't want to play. Wii's Virtual Console can power up games in just a few seconds."
On the subject of online features, Iwata announced WiiConnect24, a feature that will enable Wii to be constantly online, even when in standby, allowing for online content from game makers and other players to be delivered to your system. Animal Crossing was used as an example, where you could leave the console in standby mode and players could bring you gifts or leave messages in your town while you are busy doing other things.
No further details about Nintendo's online strategy, including which games will be playable online, were announced.
The Wiire will bring more on Nintendo's online strategy as it becomes available.
