Sonic Wild Fire Announced For Wii

by The Wiire Staff (2006-05-09)

SEGA has just confirmed that Sonic Wild Fire will be coming exclusively to Nintendo's next-generation console, Wii. The latest in a series of SEGA press releases entitled "The Road to E3 2006" reveals more detailed information about the title.

Sonic Wild Fire is being developed by SEGA Studios and marks the first title since 1991's Sonic The Hedgehog that Sonic has gone on a completely solo adventure.

The plot of the game revolves around the storybook tale Arabian Nights. The last pages of the book have been stolen and Sonic must venture to re-create the missing ending. The story will be told by providing players with vibrant environments that "provide for a refreshingly new look to the franchise filled with brightly colored mosaic tiles, glistening oases, swaying palm trees, and crumbling stone columns," according to the release.

"Sonic Wild Fire and the innovative Wii controller changes the way gamers play interactive entertainment," said Vice President of SEGA of America Scott A. Steinberg, "SEGA is excited to lead the gameplay revolution through its support of Wii with a Sonic release built exclusively for this new system."

The game will control by holding the main Wii controller with two hands horizontally, allowing you to steer Sonic by tilting the controller left and right. The controller can also be "flung forward" to dash-attack enemies and break down barriers. The game will also feature multi- and single-player "controller-focused" mini-games that act as a supplement to the main game.

Sonic Wild Fire is expected to release in 2007 for Wii.
