"Today, we can confirm that one of our members, LucasArts, has decided not to renew its membership, said Rich Taylor, Senior VP of Communications and Research for the Entertainment Software Association, "We value each member of our association, but respect the unique factors that led to LucasArts' decision.

The Entertainment Software Association is made up of some of the top video game publishers in the world, including Atari, Capcom, Disney Interactive Studios, Eidos, Electronic Arts, Square Enix and Take Two Interactive. One of the primary functions of the trade association involved orchestrating the year Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3).
LucasArts is the latest in a series of departures from the ESA. Activision and Vivendi also decided not to renew their memberships.
Margaret Grohne, Director of Public Relations for LucasArts, confirmed that LucasArts indeed left the ESA. The company will still be attending E3, however.
So what does this mean for you, the gamer? Not much of anything, really. But it's certainly interesting to see what these companies do outside of the ESA, and any more follow suit.
