Microsoft Competes With Wii Fit For Fitness Gaming Spotlight

by Skylar Wilcox (2008-05-09)

Just in time for the weekend, the Boys & Girls Club of America's first annual National Family Fitness Day is this Monday, and as the North American release of Wii Fit draws near, Microsoft is finding itself with a rare opportunity: the game won't be out until a week after, which leaves them with a fitness event that can be tied exclusively to an Xbox 360 game instead.

That's just what they decided to do, with a partnership with the nonprofit organization to promote Dance Dance Revolution Universe 2, a new entry in the series that was the symbol of active gaming before the Wii was launched.  An event at a New York Boys & Girls Club will allow participants to play the game for free, and will feature such celebrities as supermodel Christie Brinkley and physician Dr. Carlon Colker.

The Wii Fit launch will likely cause more people to get up and move in the comfort of their living room than this event will, but any effort to include gaming in an active lifestyle is a good thing, right?
