More Kid Icarus Wii Rumormongering

by Christopher Holzworth (2008-05-09)

Besides a few of us old-timey gamers, I can't imagine many have played the original Kid Icarus on the NES. Despite this, Nintendo enthusiasts of every age seem to be clamoring for a Kid Icarus on the Wii. It doesn't help that the main character, Pit, is part of Super Smash Bros. Brawl's roster. Then Reggie Fils-Aime went and teased big announcements at E3.

If that weren't enough, on episode 7 of IGN's Nintendo Voice Chat podcast Matt Casamassina essentially confirmed Kid Icarus Wii. Casamassina says, "Of course [Nintendo is] going to have some E3 surprises. You know, Kid Icarus, for crying out loud, how many times do we have to say Kid Icarus? Kid Icarus is coming for crying out loud."

If this is an elaborate rouse, Casamassina is sure going the distance, even claiming to know the game's developer: "I think we've confirmed it a billion times but no, I'm not going to say it officially." On this week's show, Casamassina mentioned how much he's anticipating the game, as well as his confidence in the developer making "a really pretty game." Ugh, enough is enough, Matt!

But wait! There's more!  Kombo claims to have early concept artwork from a pitch document for the game. According to Kombo, Factor 5 (of PS3's Lair fame) is rumored to be the mastermind behind the Kid Icarus revival. Of course, this is all purely speculative and has in no way been confirmed by Nintendo. Some of the art they've posted (like the picture above) is pretty convincing, though. Or it's the work of some very talented DeviantArtists.
