Former Nintendo president and chairman Hiroshi Yamauchi is the richest man in Japan, according to Forbes. Yamauchi was Nintendo's third president, beginning in 1949 and lasting all the way into the new century until he stepped down in 2002. Yamauchi essentially made Nintendo as we know it -- leading the company from small-time hanafuda card making into a multi-billion dollar video game innovator.
Though retired, Yamauchi retains a 10% in Nintendo. His net worh jumped $3 billion in the last year. I think it goes without saying what the cause for that is ('sup, Wii?).
